QUESTION: What are the goals of the SciVis meetings?

The goals of the SciVis meetings as laid out by David Laidlaw are to
foster group spirit, help show connections between different projects,
and to provide research feedback in a low-key environment.


QUESTION: When are the SciVis meetings?

The SciVis meetings are every Tuesday from 12-1 pm unless specifically
cancelled.


QUESTION: Where are the SciVis meetings?

The SciVis meetings are currently scheduled to meet in CIT 345. CIT
345 is the conference room on the 3rd floor in the northeast corner
(Waterman & Brook side) of the CIT building at Brown.


QUESTION: How do I receive the weekly SciVis email?

Go to <a href= "http://list.cs.brown.edu/mailman/listinfo/scivis"> the SciVis mail-list webpage </a> and subscribe. If you need assistance, 
the SciVis Coordinator (Radu Jianu) will help you. You can reach him at jr (at) cs (dot) brown (dot) edu.


QUESTION: How long should talks be?

Speakers should strive to make their talks no longer than 30
minutes. This length leaves time for discussion during and after the
talk.


QUESTION: What is the SciVis 60-second Experience?

The SciVis 60-second Event is our group's elevator-pitch event. It occurs once a semester and is meant to allow SciVis attendees to summarize their
work from the past few months, describe an interesting problem they're
working on, or talk about a wacky idea they've been stewing over. Each one of us gets one slide and 60 seconds to pitch the idea to the group.


QUESTION: I've just given a talk. Where do I put my slides?

Please put your Powerpoint slides into
'/pro/graphics/scivis/talks' under the appropriate year (e.g.,
2004/) and in a directory named for your username and the date of the
talk (e.g., gem_May5/).


QUESTION: Where can I find past SciVis talks?

Past SciVis speakers, talk titles, and talk dates can be found
on the visweb site, under Organization. The actual Powerpoint slides are on the filesystem in
'/pro/graphics/scivis/talks'.
