Install cygwin

Windows XP setup, outside the CS department:

You need cygwin installed to use $G with Windows XP. Inside the CS department, use the default cygwin installation that is automatically placed on new machines. Outside CS, download the latest cygwin distribution and install it on your machine. It's best to just install all the cygwin packages, this will take a while, but it makes sure you'll have everything required by $G.

Once you have cygwin installed, setup ssh so that you will be able to tunnel cvs commands through ssh to the department.
